Academic Career Summary
Dr Mayumi Allinson specialises in investigating organic contaminants in water, sediment and biological samples. Since obtaining her PhD from the University of Adelaide in 1998, Mayumi has worked at Deakin University and the Department of Primary Industries in Victoria, where her responsibilities have included sample preparation and chemical analysis utilising solid phase extraction methods, passive sampling methods, bioanalytical tools, and instrumental analysis such as HPLC, GC-MS etc. Mayumi currently works for the Centre for Aquatic Pollution Identification and Management (CAPIM) at the University of Melbourne, as a research fellow, where her role is to assess the hormonal activity of natural and waste waters via rapid assessment tools, including a suite of two-hybrid yeast bioassays, and ELISA. She plays a lead role in developing and maintaining CAPIM’s international collaborations with Japanese research institutes, including the collaboration with Japan’s National Institute for Environmental Studies and University of Kitakyushu, which allowed her access to the multi-residue screening tools.
